Whether you need a new site or someone to actually maintain the one you’ve got — Dear John, based on the Kapiti Coast, Wellington area, works with small businesses across New Zealand. Let’s talk
Frequently asked questions
What does a WordPress website build include?
A build starts with a conversation about what your site needs to do: who it’s for, what action you want visitors to take, and what’s not working now. From there: design, build, copy review, mobile optimisation, basic SEO setup, and a handover where you can manage your own content. No ongoing dependency unless you want it.
How long does a website build take?
Typically four to eight weeks from brief to launch, depending on how much content is ready on your side and how many rounds of feedback are involved. Simpler sites move faster. Sites with e-commerce or booking integrations take longer.
What is a website care plan?
A monthly service that keeps your WordPress site updated, secure, and backed up without you having to think about it. Covers plugin and theme updates, security monitoring, performance checks, and regular backups. Plans start at $59/month.
Do I need a care plan after my site is built?
Not required, but WordPress sites without ongoing maintenance are the ones that get hacked, slow down, or break after an update. A care plan removes that risk. If you would rather manage it yourself, that option is there too.
My website already exists but isn’t performing. Can you fix it instead of rebuilding?
Yes. The “Find It. Fix It.” service is specifically for existing sites that have traffic but no conversions, slow load times, outdated design, or visibility problems. A diagnostic first, then targeted fixes. A full rebuild is only suggested if the existing site genuinely cannot be salvaged.
Do you only work with businesses in Kapiti Coast and Wellington?
No. Dear John NZ works with small businesses across New Zealand. Most of the work is done remotely. The Kapiti Coast and Wellington focus is for clients who want to meet in person.
What makes this different from a big agency or a freelance marketplace?
No account managers, no handoffs, no templates pulled from a library and called a custom build. One person who understands your business does the work. Pricing reflects NZ small business budgets, not agency overheads.
Will I be able to update my own site after it’s built?
Yes. WordPress is built for non-technical users to manage their own content. You get a handover that covers how to update pages, add blog posts, and make basic changes. Anything more complex can go through the care plan or a one-off request.
